FIRST AID and SPORTS INJURIES
Sports injuries sometimes do occur. We take precaution to avoid injuries. We do warm-up exercises before training. We do stretching exercises to loosen our muscle to avoid injuries. Its advisable to check with doctor when faced with injuries..asap. Do not massage when cramps occurs.. apply slow pressure against the cramp. Wrong and heavy massages might cause cramp muscles tissues to bust. Common karate related injuries are strains and sprains to the shoulder, wrist, knees, ankles and back.
Remedy: Apply RICE treatment for minor cuts, STRAINS and SPRAIN. Apply analgesic balms to reduce pain and increase blood flow to the affected area -(after making sure there is no broken bone or cracks).
The difference between the meaning
STRAIN: muscle or tendon over stretched or tear. "pulled muscle" is a more common term.
SPRAIN: ligament over stretched or tear. Ligaments are tough fibrous tissue connecting bone to bone.

~RICE~
When soft tissue injuries occur, the RICE treatment method is applied.
RICE is an acronym for Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation.
When used correctly, recovery time is shortened and discomfort minimized.

- Rest: First thing to do after an injury is to rest. Continuing training after an injury will further aggravate the injury. Rest and recover.
- Ice: Apply ice to the injured part to reduce swelling and inflammation. Use a piece of cold meat from fridge or ice cubes covered with a piece of cloth. Sometimes its good to alternate between cold and warm treatment.
- Compression: Pressure applied directly to the injured or cut area may stop bleeding. compression will reduce the swelling.
- Elevation: Raising the injured/bleeding part higher than heart level will aid in stopping bleeding as well as reducing swelling.
Remember to use the Fire Extinguisher.
Using the PASS method : Pull Aim Squeeze Sweep.
*Twist the pin and pull it out
*Aim the Nozzle at the base of fire.
*Squeeze the Lever.
*Move the nozzle as the gas shoots out from the nozzle from one end to the other in a sweeping manner.
